I've often heard drivers of 18-Wheelers refer to themselves as the safest drivers on the road. My dad drove a truck, but the last hour has destroyed my goodwill toward truckers, probably forever. As you may know, the South is struggling with Snowmageddon 2011 right now. Interstate 30 has been basically blocked by big trucks for three days now. I told a friend as I was leaving work, where I have been stuck for three days, that surely small car drivers aren't responsible for it all.
I took a secondary highway that runs along the Interstate home, since I'd heard 30 was blocked again, and I wasn't staying at work another day. In slushy conditions, trucks were coming up behind me and blowing by me at 45 mph, which was 10 mph below posted. There was still patches of snow and ice on the road, so I think that's reasonable. I kept pulling over as theses maniacs with CDLs came up behind me. Finally, I crossed a bridge that I had no option to pull over before it. It had at least an inch of ice on it, and the only thing I could see in my rear view mirror as I went over it, sliding a little and going entirely too fast, was the grille of an 18 wheeler.
Screw you guys. You're NOT the safest drivers on the road.
