While the report might be true the timing and motivations behind this are suspect. Maybe it's American agents releasing the information to the NYT for political purpose, but why?
First of all this is pretty much a death sentence for the guy unless the CIA extracts him from the country, but then that would make the CIA look bad so I guess we have an issue with CIA officers deciding that their own political views are greater than national security interests.
Secondly the timing of this report could really hammer Karzai's chances at re-election. Is the NYT making up shit about Karzai's brother just like they did in 2004 with Bush's military record right before the election?
