I think it is a trick question.

By definition TOTAL darkness has to be dark across all spectrum.

Its like the old addage 'What would happen if an immovable object was hit by an unstoppable force?'

It is an impossibility because of definitions. If something is unstoppable then the other thing cannot be immovable, and if something is immovable then by definition nothing can be unstoppable. They are trying to both be the best at one thing.

So the answer is you cannot see anything in complete darkness.

The real question is this:

Can you hear?
