Do what your character would do, but keep in mind that your character might see their IC spouse during downtime when neither of you are online. If it's important to you both that the IC relationship remain intact, try to keep in touch with your character's spouse's player and figure out what they do during those times.

It's a tough balance. The point of "Who wants to play a cheated-on spouse?" is a good one, but what about, "Who wants to play the spouse of a character they never see or hear from?" is another.

It's pretty bad when you're RPing a character almost every day, and your character's IC significant other's player vanishes for a couple of months. And then they want to come back and act like they'd never been gone. This happened to me back when I was freeform roleplaying in chatrooms. When I decided to quit for what I knew would be at least a few months, I told my character's significant other's player, and gave him the option to break it off. He decided that that would be best for the way he wanted to play, and I was fine with that. It's somewhat rude, in my opinion, not to do so.
