"I agree with Xeno, I don't think you can really do much in three months."

I get very concerned about "volunteer" civil defense corps that are paramilitary in nature and require service. I do not care to see the American version of the Basiji (Iran) or Chavez's Citizen Militia. It scares the hell out of me when national leaders (regardless of the nation) seek to create paramilitary organizations to compete with the historic role of the military. This generally means that the leader does not trust the military and is seen more often in dictatorships and thrid world nations.

If they want more young people involved in the nation, increase the size of both the active duty military and the National Guard. Things that Obama could do to get our best and brightest to volunteer:

1. Encourage people to serve
2. Clamp down on stupid statements from Democrats (Kerry comes to mind here) that charicature the military as a choice for the uneducated who have no other future or alternatives.
3. Laws that benefit Veterans over non-vets.
