"Pendulms always swing back and forth." Absolutely. I'd say it's more a question of how well Dems can maintain their momentum and when it's going to start swinging back the other way. I think the bulk of that will depend on what Dems do, or try to do, with their majority, where the economy goes, and what message Republicans put out in 2010 / 2012. I don't think the GOP needs that many changes. I disagree with the general policies, but I don't think they're moronic or anything. Which is to say, I can understand thinking that if you take constraints off businesses then they'll spend and engage in business more freely and that in turn is good for the economy. I have a stronger innate distrust of human nature and I think businesses do better when people can feel safe that they're not being robbed blind by them and in turn become more willing to invest in them, but I know where you're coming from. But I think the GOP needs some facelift changes. The anti-gay stuff has to go. It's like a bone that got thrown to the religious right that doesn't really have anything to do with conservative economic policy and an issue where the public is generally trending left over time. At some point you have to trim the fat and consider the extent that your stance on issues like that paint your party a certain way that's unappealing to the middle. If the GOP finds themselves unwilling to make any changes, and just waits around on their laurels on the belief that Democrats are going to screw up and then they can make their move, I think they're going to die. Not by Democrats hand, but I think a 3rd party will just move in and decimate them and it'll become a 2 party system again with a new set of players on the right.
