Open world RPGs just don't do it for me.
Oblivion, despite reviews, is logically flat out terrible game design. There were so many stupid things going on there that I had to modify, the most blatant example being that leveling was flat out a bad idea unless done in a very specific manner. Yes, I could mod it. But if I have to modify a game's entire structure to make it enjoyable, doesn't that mean that the game, as designed, kind of sucks?

Also, if you design a game where the purpose is to let you do whatever you want, don't thrust a person into the main quest only to say "yeah, you don't really have to do it until you feel like it."
Make the "Main Quest" something that you're 99% likely to stumble on in your random wandering. Don't start me off imprisoned for some unknown reason and tell me to go search for something, then tell me "oh but do whatever you feel like doing."
Even Morrowind did that to an extent.

IMO give me a BioWare or Obsidian d20 based RPG any day. There's enough customization and do things how I want to feel while still maintaining a structured narrative.
